Denpasar
As the capital of the island of Bali , Denpasar is a busy centre with
all the noise and traffic congestion associated with a developing Asian
city. A modern metropolis, Denpasar - which means 'next to the market',
offers a range of shopping complexes and local restaurants. For those
interested in gold, textiles and handicraft, there is a traditional
marketplace located in the old quarter of the town, which although is
extremely dusty and dirty, is a guaranteed spot to hunt down a bargain
or two. There are also a variety of attractions to see in Denpasar
including historical memorials, the Bali Museum and the art centre.
However, early morning explorations are recommended as the midday sun
can be draining.
